Sunday capped off a terrific week for Georgia rising junior Ellen Perez as the Australia native won a total of 12 matches in route to sweeping both the singles and doubles titles at the ITF $10K in Brussels, Belgium. Since Perez entered the week unranked she had to play singles qualies and after winning all three of those matches in straight sets she mowed down the competition in the main draw. Perez didn't drop more than 5 games in any main draw match which included today's championship match against #673 Kimberley Zimmermann.
Perez broke Zimmermann from 30/40 to go up 3-1 in the opening set but Zimmermann broke back from 15/40 to make it 3-2. Perez broke at love to go up 4-2 and then broke again from 30/40 to take the opening set 6-2. Perez held and broke to start the second set but Zimmermann fought back and broke, held, and broke again to go up 3-2. Perez broke back, held, broke, and held at love to close it out 6-2, 6-3.
Perez teamed up with Carolina Alves to win the doubles title with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Karin Kennel and Helene Scholsen.
Robert Farah (USC '10) and Anna-Lena Groenefeld made it to the mixed doubles finals at Wimbledon but came out on the wrong end of a 7-6(5), 6-4 decision against Heather Watson and Henri Kontinen. There were no breaks of serve in the first set and after falling behind 5-0 in the tiebreak Farah and Groenefeld evened it at 5-5. Watson and Kontinen got the mini break back to go up 6-5 and then closed out the set on the next point. Watson and Kontinen broke to go up 4-3 in the second set and held two more times to close it out.
TCU's Cameron Norrie won his 12th consecutive match and qualified for the main draw at the $75K Winnipeg Challenger with a come from behind 1-6, 6-1, 7-6(4) over #361 Finn Tearney (Pepperdine '13). Norrie, whose ATP ranking shot up to 422, will meet #214 Alex Sarkissian (Pepperdine '14) in the first round.
Illinois's Aleks Vukic also had a successful weekend in Winnipeg and qualified for his first-ever Challenger main draw after defeating #464 Sebastien Boltz 1-6, 6-2, 6-1. Next up for Vukic is #223 Daniel Nguyen (USC '12).
There was a good article that I read over the weekend about new Arizona head coach Clancy Shields. It talks about his upbringing which included the family living out of a van so Clancy and his brother Luke could play tennis all across the country. If you have a chance give it a read at this link.

Nice article. Very useful. It was expected for Henri Kontinen and Heather Watson to win the final of WTA Wimbledon 2016 double mixed against Robert Farah and Anna-Lena Grönefeld. Ranked as #55 in WTA, Heather Watson applied succesfully his strengths and scored a well deserved victory against Robert and Anna. I am happy to see her to win for the first time Wimbledon in her career, to move further in the rankings and am sorry to see Farah and Grönefeld kicked out of the tournament, because they could have performed better in this final, though. Hopefully they will readjust the game strategy for the next tournament.
Super article on Ellen Perez, big Congrats to her on multiple Championships last week. She is a very nice young lady and wonderful player. Hopefully she will have a great Jr. year, she brings alot to UGA Tennis.#GoDawgs
